MICHAELA BRINKLEY SETS RECORDS IN FIRST START
Freshman Michaela Brinkley set two school records in her first start Friday night against Grain Valley. She scored 20 points in the game which is the most points in a game by a Freshman. Brinkley broke the record held by Jenni Miller with 19 points. Miller set the record on December 4, 1989 in a game against Oak Park. Miller went on to be Kearney's all time leading scorer with 1648 points. She also holds records for points by a freshman (195), points by a sophomore (424) and points by a junior (461) and career points per game 15.26
Brinkley's 20 point performance was also good enough to set the record for most points by a player in their first start. The previous record of 15 was held by Jenny Ghidoni in a game against Oak Grove on January 10, 2001. Ghidoni went on to become one of the most prolific three point shooters in state history. She finished her career with the second most threes in a season and in a career in Missouri state history. Her Kearney records include points in a game (36), threes in a game (9), threes in a season (108) and threes in a career (258)
